Calbo
Such was born in Muro de Alcoy (Alicante), Spain in 1962 where his
artistic education began as an adolescent. He attended the Arts and Crafts
School in Alcoy, specializing in graphic design. Continuously seen in his
work is the influence of his education, where he experiments with
different forms, silhouettes, and colors that culminate in a
hyper-realistic image. After attending the Fine Arts High School in San
Carlos, Valencia, Calbo began to observe the modern world as one where
technology dominated. Throughout time artistic trends resulted from the
socio-political tide, where
centuries before artisans and craftsmen were mainstream, eventually
falling to the industrial revolution and the rise of industrial arts,
however the world of technology now provides a challenge for Such to
experiment and new subject to analyze. The result is a contemplative
style, by the juxtaposition of forms and fragments, the use of positive
and negative space, according to Calbo builds a new metaphoric reality of
representation and suggestion. The ability to "speak"
metaphorically through form and to distinguish between the concrete and
abstract world is a continuing problem Such attempts to solve.
